RESAuto
The need for resilient automotive supply chains has become apparent with recent geopolitical events. This is in addition to the ever-present threat of cyber attacks to any connected system, not only enterprise systems but our increasingly digitised cyber-physical world.
This includes connected vehicles. Capability Hardware Enhanced RISC Instructions (CHERI) enables new microprocessor-based protections against common vulnerabilities, reducing the potential cyber impact of compromised devices. RESAuto project partner Thales is studying if CHERI can be cost-effectively integrated into OEMs’ supply chains. This includes a deep dive into the legal liability and insurance aspects. Project partner WMG at the University of Warwick is constructing a demonstrator, linking a vehicle simulator to a CHERI-based computer to gain operational insights into a cyber-physical application. Techworks via the Automotive Electronics Innovation Network (AESIN) provides dissemination resources for this Innovate UK-funded project. We welcome input on any related systems engineering challenges.
