Systems Engineering for Cyber Physical Systems

The modern automotive is part of a wider connected complex ecosystem with properties being influenced by external forces outside the control of the automotive OEMs.

These include, but are not limited to, changing customer demand, accessibility, convenience, product differentiation, affordability, quality, resilience, industry consolidation, etc. The object of this special interest group is to understand the impact of the wider ecosystem and help the industry engineer products and business model drive benefits to both manufacturers and the wider community

After leaving Surrey University in 1984, Peter joined Plessey Research working on optical, acoustic and magnetic sensor research. My career has covered a broad range of sensor, communication and internet research and filed over 40 patent applications. His career has spanned both the civil and defence markets, developing bespoke sensors to full turn key systems for broadcast, transportation, defence and national security applications.

After managing Roke’s senior consultancy team for 6 years he was appointed Future Technology manager responsible for business technology strategy. He was responsible for driving Plessey’s innovation programme, covering all aspects of knowledge, technology and innovation management. He supplied consultancy on future technologies and was featured in the Financial Times as the Siemens future technologist.

Richard is a strategic leader with over 25 years’ experience in ITS, Transport Technology, Smart Mobility and Smart Highway Infrastructure sectors.

His background includes senior leadership, technical and programme roles with major engineering consultancy organisations. Responsible for the successful development, execution and operational deployment of major strategically significant, multidisciplinary, innovative, transport technology programmes.
