Audience questions presented in the screen at the ITS European Congress 2025 Special Interest Session (34) titled as Towards digital road operation.
The CEDR Call 2022 Data projects of DROIDS, PRESORT and TIARA jointly organised two events at the ITS European Congress 2025: Special Interest Session and closed session with the CEDR members. The projects are also preparing to present their results in the final programme conference on 14–15 October 2025 at Birmingham, UK, Highways UK conference.
The Special Interest Session (SIS34) “Towards digital road operation” was held in collaboration with CEDR, ERTICO, ASECAP and TISA. The members and organisations representing the forementioned included Wolfgang Gritzner from ASFINAG (Austria), Joost Vantomme from ERTICO (Belgium), Tom Alkim from MAPtm (Netherlands), Kristof Rombaut from Mobility and Public works Flanders, Stéphanie Chaufton from TISA (Belgium), and Sven Maerivoet from Transport & Mobility Leuven (Belgium). The session was moderator by Giovanni Huisken from MAPtm (Netherlands) and organised by Ilkka Kotilainen from Traficon (Finland).
The session was excellently attended as full room of participants arrived to listen to the presentations and discussion of the distinguished experts. Main part of the one-hour session (45 min) was held as panel discussion. As the session moderator Dr. Huisken concluded, focus of the session included quality of data and harmonisation with cross-border collaboration. High recognition was given of going forward to digital road operation. The questions presented in the session concerned on digital twins, shadows and models. Finally, it was concluded that perfect should not be the enemy of good when going towards digital road operation.
A closed session was also held with the CEDR member states road managers where the CEDR DROIDS, PRESORT and TIARA projects results were presented and discussed. The outcomes included discussion on the roles and responsibilities of the road managers, third-party data and trust on C-ITS services. Discussions included digital traffic rules and regulation current development and collaboration in Europe.
The CEDR Call 2022 Data final results will be present at the Final Programme Conference held on 14–15 October 2025 at Birmingham, UK, at the same time as the Highways UK 2025 conference. The projects invite all interested to join the conference to hear the results and discuss on future of digital road operation.
