AESIN members play key role in the UK Connected Intelligent Transport Environment (UK CITE) project
Plans to develop the next generation of autonomous vehicles have been announced and AESIN members are set to lead testing on UK roads.
The CITE Project, worth £5.6m, has received £3.4m support from the Innovate UK Connected Vehicles Fund in order to create the most advanced environment for testing Connected and Autonomous vehicles.
Building on the significant strength of the UK Electronics Community in this area, AESIN has developed a unique partnership with leading organisations in the automotive industry including road infrastructure that can bring the enabling technology required in the CITE project and beyond.
Alan Banks , of Visteon and AESIN Chairman said: “We are delighted to be engaged in this innovative collaboration and I believe that our early collaborative work on the AESIN Connected Corridor secure wireless technology is key to bringing added value and accelerated delivery of this technology “.
AESIN members involved with the CITE consortium include Visteon, Jaguar Land Rover and Siemens- who will be providing some of the key enabling technology and vehicles that will be used in the tests on 40 miles of urban roads, dual-carriageways and motorways with combinations of 3 talking car technologies . The project will establish how innovative technology can improve journeys; reduce traffic congestion; and provide entertainment and safety services through better secure connectivity.
Dr. Derek Boyd, Chief Executive of NMI said: “With the support of both the Electronics Systems and the Automotive Councils, we are delighted that this project has received funding. We believe it offers significant potential to revolutionise UK road travel but, significantly, provides opportunity for intellectual property development here in the UK which can be exported globally”.
AESIN (operated by NMI), provides an excellent basis for collaboration across electronic and automotive domains with further workstreams on Powertrain, Software, Security and Advanced Driver Assistance/Vehicle Autonomy.
