AESIN Announce Connected Corridor project to enable the connected car

Aligns to UK innovation system

AESIN, the UK’s Automotive Electronics Innovation Network, announced today that it is leading a collaborative research project that will demonstrate the possibilities for novel services and business models when a car is reliably connected to a mobile wireless communications network.

There are various electronic systems and devices in existence today which are already at a point where a cost-effective connected car solution is possible. There are also many supporting communications standards yet they have limitations which restrict their use for such an application. The objective of the AESIN “Connected Corridor” project is to create a seamless communications solution to enable the connected car. The project will focus on the new API’s and interfaces that are needed whilst utilising existing technologies. The project aims to be demonstrated within 18 months of launch.

Alan Banks (pictured), Chairman of AESIN, made the announcement today at its annual Automotive Electronics Conference hosted by the University of Warwick. Banks also updated attendees on the progress AESIN has made with key organisations in the national context including the UK Automotive Council, InnovateUK and the Electronic Systems Council.

Following his opening welcome Alan Banks said “AESIN was officially launched in 2012 after several years’ preparatory work. AESIN has come a long way since then and today I announced an exciting project which is a direct consequence of working together with a number of the founding partners. This is a valuable progression for the network yet it is equally important for the long term prospects of the industry that AESIN works within the national context. We can now link specific interests of the AESIN network with national priorities and we were delighted to receive updates on the work of the UK Automotive Council and ESCO here today too”

Dr. Derek Boyd, NMI CEO said “the UK has an exceptionally strong capability in automotive electronics as demonstrated here at the annual conference.
